Re: WW1 Pilot With Fox

I don't know the story, but, I'll bet he got the fox when it was just a kit.

As I understand it, foxes are pretty much impossible to tame.

(56) L.550 - "He is fond of flying"
© National Library of Scotland
Author: David McLellan (he was appointed as an official war photographer in December 1917)
R.A.F. Squadron's fox mascot, France, during World War I. The fox is sitting in a plane's cockpit. Regimental, barrack or group mascots were popular amongst soldiers during this period. They gave the group a focus, allowed the expression of human feeling and relieved the monotony of life on duty. (Original reads: OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN ON THE BRITISH WESTERN FRONT IN FRANCE. This young fox has attached himself to the R.A.F. and is the mascot of a squadron. He is fond of flying.)

I like not just the photo, but also the story that goes with it.

By the beginning of WW2, dogs and foxes were becoming obosolete, thus the Australians clever usage of a native species.
