Re: Weird Old Post Mortem Photography

Only four of these photos are post mortem. MANY photos out there are mislabeled. Contrary to popular belief, Victorian post mortem photos were not common, and they are quite obvious with the decedent lying in repose in a bed or coffin.
Shut up you fucking thick weird cunt..it was well known Victorians posed yes posed with their dead relatives not as you keep repeating only in beds there are many many photographs where they are stood up or poses in a chair etc why you are so stupid and naive even when there is endless proof is beyond me..go do some research you moron instead of repeating yourself like a fucking parrot..all of those pictures are of dead people not just 4

Re: Weird Old Post Mortem Photography

She was obviously very sick, but this is pre-mortem not post mortem. A living photo was preferred but if the photographer didn't get to the home in time, post mortem photos were better than no photos.

Definitely post-mortem, do you know why her eyes look the way they do? It is because they were painted on her eyelids.

Re: Weird Old Post Mortem Photography

oh those poor living children... they look scared half to death
None of them look scared, and most of these are not post mortem in the first place. Death was all too common, they were not sheltered from it like today. That was also a parent, sibling, BFF.....what is there to be afraid of?

Intensely beautiful. The last one seems out of place, like something from the Picture People at the Mall.
Well she's alive. This is pre-mortem.

Re: Weird Old Post Mortem Photography

Weird how they use to pose the bodies..Love this thread..Thanks!
It is a myth that the Victorians posed, propped and painted a corpse to appear alive. True Victorian post mortem photos were rare but obvious and are of a decedent lying in repose in a bed or coffin. If you question whether or not a photo is post mortem, 9x out of ten it is not post mortem.

Re: Weird Old Post Mortem Photography

They look so.. alive. Nice job.
Only three photos are post mortem, the obvious ones. The others look so alive because they are alive. The Victorians did not pose, prop or paint a corpse to appear alive. Those are myths.
In a true Victorian post mortem photo, the decedent would be lying in repose in a bed or coffin. Period

Not post mortem, but ante mortem.

Re: Weird Old Post Mortem Photography

These are always pretty cool. They would use this stand thing that would go up from their feet under their clothes and strengthen to the contraption so it looked like they were standing. Also, they would paint over their eyes to make them look open which never really worked as you can see from the creepy expression andbovrrall ferkingnofbthe photo one man came into the mortuary and I asked him if his uncle was coming. He said no because he is afraid the person is going to be posed doing something. I said on no what happened to him? He said when his uncle was little he went to a funeral and they had the dead guy sitting up in a chair with his fiddle like he was playing it and he ran home. The old days were weird lol and ouvh imagine if you got a large wound you know they are going to stuff it with peppermint oil, curry powder and a snip of sage. The using forceps pull the sides of the wound to give it air. Last pour a few drops of morphine in your eye holes lol

Re: Weird Old Post Mortem Photography

These are always pretty cool. They would use this metal stand thing that would go up from their feet under their clothes up to behind their head. Then they can fasten the persons body to the contraption so it looked like they were standing. Also, they would paint over their eyes to make them look open which never really worked as you can see from the creepy expression it never really worked all that well, not so lifelike. A man came into the mortuary and I asked him if his uncle was coming. He said no because he is afraid the person is going to be posed doing something. I said on no what happened to him? He said when his uncle was little he went to a funeral and they had the dead guy sitting up in a chair with his fiddle like he was playing it and he ran home. The old days were weird lol and just imagine if you got a large boil or infected wound, you know they are going to stuff it with peppermint oil, curry powder and a snip of sage. Then, using forceps to pull the sides taut to give it air. Last pour a few drops of morphine in your eye holes lol
