really though, the Vietnam War was a war won or lost through public support. The US lost in that respect.

As the Nazi/Soviet front in WW2 demonstrated, genocide is a necessary but not sufficient requirement to win a ground war in Asia. Ho Chi Minh called it correctly before the war began, Ho said the USA would kill 10 of his soldiers for each US death and we would still lose. Ho reasoned, like a typical Asian, that his people were expendable and the Americans would not engage in genocide. The Great Republican President Richard Nixon (God bless his soul) got the communists to the bargaining table by bombing North Vietnam, ending a war started by Democrats. |
