As this photo states, this SS was captured by the Canadians.He had just been interrogated when this photo was taken. He had been asking to be "finished off", not sure how he turned out in the end.

In many cases, they would have given him what he wanted, but many SS were kept 'alive' for information. Even though he's SS, he also looks very young and probably didn't have a whole lot to tell. So, I'm going to guess he was not given his request.

Given his age and the uniform, plus the fact that he was captured by Canadians, the picture was probably taken in Normandy just north of Caen shortly after D-Day by a member of the 3rd Canadian Infantry, and this kid is from the 12th SS "Hitler Jugend" Division. He could have suffered his injuries either through combat or through interrogation. It's war.
