This looks pretty late term given the size of the child or perhaps the child was stillborn (and the also mother died) and both were interred together, baby placed on mother's womb? The position and size of the child looks a bit odd and incidentally the child in this position would have been a breech...

Looking at the above links the woman would have been alive during the middle ages. I would imagine that breach births had fairly low survival rates for both mother and baby in those days, so I guess that this would have been possible.

In Mexica (Aztec) society, this was the only way for a woman to gain access to heaven, any other way would be eternity in a dismal humid purgatory, i.e. they would be in the lowlands for all time.
