RMS Lusitania 1915
On May 7th, 1915 the Cunard ocean liner, Lusitania was torpedoed and sunk 18 miles off The Old Head Kinsale, off the coast of Ireland, the ship sank in roughly 18 minutes. Of the roughly 2500 people on board only 761 survived, while 1,959 people, many of whom were women and children were not so lucky. The sinking helped fuel anti-German sentiments in America, which eventually brought it into WW1 two years later. Below are some paintings of the sinking along with some pictures of the victims.

Two u- boats were present that day of the sinking of the Lusitania the U-20 the U-22 and another dozen patrolling the island of ireland the latter boat going on to sinking the HMS Louvain in 1918 I know this as my great grandfather Michael golden was lost on this ship off the coast of Gallipoli in the Dardanelles.he was leading seaman service number 3276B he left a wife and 4 children on a pittance pension grave reference 29 memorial Plymouth naval memorial....
