Salt would not burn yer bum at all. Most medical enema's contain substances like Phosphates, some with chemicals that irritate the colon for use if poo is more firmly lodged!!   |

Think some of you missed the point. The saline was/is isotonic to body levels to prevent excess osmotic absorbtion. Think about a tablespoon to a gallon or there abouts. Pumps like these are still used to literally blast away hard impactions. You can soften a hard impaction with warm oil, but even today, it may come to blasts of saline to break up the mass if really hard. Look up Higgenson syringe as a later day version of this. Modern day versions that you don't hear much about are similar to a pressure washer with a drain if it can't be broken up by manipulation. They had to use one on my dad when he was hospitalized for over a month and bedridden before he passed. In this day and age, everything has to be disposable and non allergenic, so in-line hand pumps as with the higgenson made of red latex rubber have become obsolete in the first world. Some of this old world stuff is curious and treated like quack oddities, but realistically continues in much refined and disposable forms. |
