Don't forget they did not have any psychotropics back then.Thorazine.stelazine.haldol etc was not invented until the 1950's.When schizophrenics are not medicated they can be very violent.Even when on them they can be violent.. Been a psych. nurse for 38 yrs and iknow... They say Schizophrenics are no more violent than normal people IF THEY ARE PROPERLY MEDICATED . The most dangerous are the paranoid schiz's.Thay had no choice but to chain them up as talking to them has no effect what so ever
