Josef, 36 of (address), committed suicide Tuesday night by shooting himself while seated in the sun-porch of his home. According to Chief of Police Bill, Josef put the muzzle of a .250 calibre rifle in his mouth and pulled the trigger. Josef was divorced by his wife, Marion, about six months ago on the grounds of drunkenness and extreme cruelty.

At first, he contested the divorce, but later withdrew his objections and Marion obtained the decree an the custody of their daughter, Gertrude, nine.

Marion and her daughter now reside in (city). Josef was paying $5 weekly toward the support of the child. Josef was said to have been drinking heavily since his separation from his wife. A short time ago he was arrested for drunken driving in (city) and his driver's license was revoked. Josef's father is in (hospital) and his sisters were visiting their father when Josef took his life.

His mother, Carol, was upstairs in her bedroom when she heard the shot. She rushed downstairs, and when she saw the gruesome sight of her son lying there, she ran hysterically to a neighbor's home. The neighbor called the police and (police) responded.

By the time the officers arrived the mother was suffering from shock and was unable to give any clear statement. A signed statement of what occurred was secured from her later in the week.

Re: Photos from My Personal Collection of Crime Scene and Press Photos. Part 1.

This case remains unsolved:

Murders at Crater Lake: The slaying of auto-parts reps in 1952 remains a mystery

When Albert J. and Charles C. failed to show up at Union Creek on July 19, 1952, their friends thought they were lost. The two representatives of United Motor Service, in the area on business, had planned to join the friends that afternoon for a fishing trip.

When their bodies were found two days later a quarter-mile from Crater Lake Highway, gags in their mouths and bullet holes through their heads, it sparked one of the largest interagency murder investigations in state history. Investigators from the FBI, Oregon State Police, the Klamath County Sheriff's Office and the National Park Service worked on the case. But more than 63 years later, no arrests have been made or official suspects publicly named.

These are fantastic, thank you for sharing. Even something as gory and disturbing as a rifle suicide looks remarkably dignified in black and white.
