Re: The Philippine–American War
When we fought the Spanish American war we acquired the Philippines. We at that time promised them their freedom. WWII interrupted these plans. They always wanted their own country and not to be part of the United States. Thats what I mean by giberish.

Re: The Philippine–American War
B&W pictures have an eerie air to them and these pictures are especially sad because I am from the Philippines.. Yes, it would probably have been a good idea to have a shot at a better life by becoming a part of the USA, but nevertheless, being the proud & patriotic people that we Filipinos are, images like these are bitter reminders of the price our forefathers paid for the freedom and democracy we are enjoying now.

Re: The Philippine–American War
I'm also from the Philippines and i rarely see those pics, some are new to me.. Thanks for sharing this, i hope you can upload more. Very educational.. To be honest, based from what we've had in our country in the past years, sometimes i wonder what if we became a US colony, our country might be one of the strong Naval fortress of US by now, or a good location for placing missiles.. Anyway after the war, there is still an american naval base in Subic bay, Pampanga up to 1991, then Mount Pinatubo erupted and the Americans leave.. There is a joke once where in the Filipinos waited long for our total freedom, lots of talks and debates, and unexpectedly, a volcano will help us on achieving it.. There are many reasons why we didn't became an american colony.. But if America really want's it in the past years, it's not impossible for super power country. Anyway, even if our country is not that rich, our government was corrupt, we're so stubborn, our SWAT was dumb, i still love our country and still have faith that somethings will change, eventually for the good.. If someone asked me if i'm proud for my country? Yes, but not totally.. That's life, and we just need to accept it.. Another info BTW, Spain sold the Philippines to the Americans for $20 million american dollars.. |
