By the 60s most doctors were performing labotomies anymore, they prefer electro shock therapy or medication. This doctor must have been a regular quack.

As for dad remarry in after just a year, you have to remember men back then didn't know any household stuff. Chances are this kids "schizophrenia" was probably discipline issued due to the fact that his dad didn't know what he was doing lol.

I read his book, it was his stepmother's encouraging because she didn't want to deal with him. From what I remember he was a normal super active boy.
