He did: after 7 days the stitches were removed, and the wound was healed; within two weeks he was able to carry out his normal duties and after a month he was able to do even heavy works. He told the story in two pages of Soviet Antarctic Expedition Information Bulletin (it's a great reading): funny the composition of the staff: 2 aerologists were in charge of the sterilization of the tools; a meteoroligist and a driver were the assistants during the operation (the meteorologist was holding a mirror for visualization of areas not directly visible by Rogozov). And the "assistants" were just briefly instructed right before the operation, they were even told how to administer artificial respiration in the event he lost consciousness |
