Illustrations from a 1763 French Medical Textbook on Surgery.
the book is titled: Memoires De L'academie Royale De Chirurgie, Tome Quatrine which translates to Memoirs of the Royal Academy of Surgery, Volume Four I won this book at an auction for $325 and was pleasantly surprised by the illustrations. I got the illustrations scanned by the archivist at the local library, but they didn't do a good job so I had to take the scans and fix them up in photoshop, which involved raising brightness, lowering color, and rotating the images.        No idea what is happening in this pic. |

In the book you can translate the text and see what it's all about. https://archive.org/details/mmoires0...e/260/mode/1up Last pic is the female reproductive system. The uppermost part of the drawing represents the external tip (glans) and the body of the clitoris, surrounded by folds of tissue that form the hood or prepuce. The two large, dark, ring-like structures in the center represent the vestibular bulbs. These are internal masses of erectile tissue that swell during arousal. The two long, cylindrical structures forming a "V" shape at the bottom are the crura (singular: crus), often called the "legs" of the clitoris. These are internal roots that attach the organ to the pubic bone. You should buy the other 4 books too. Great set to own.  https://www.ebay.com/itm/286511352562 |
