It was 1867 Lister discovered carbolic acid prevented infection. Carbolic acid is derived from creosote which is the tar-like stuff they put on railroad ties to keep them from rotting. I forget where they get creosote from. Weird, huh. Too bad it was too late for the soldiers in the Civil War. |

Sorry to revive another old thread but I want to point out that the "hole" we are seeing in the third picture is not her vagina but rather an incision into her lower abdomen. Yes, picture 1 is of her vagina but 2 and 3 have her in a different position, with the camera taking a picture of her from more of a "bird's eye view" with the bulk of the uterus being removed abdominally. In picture 3 the uterus has been removed and her incision is still being pried open with forceps.
