i remember this from a magazine series in the uk, called images of war. It was captioned that this was a girl and her sister, taken just after she was killed by a luftwaffe strafing run. Heartbreaking pics either way... |

Her name is Kazimiera Mika-she and her older sister, along with several others, ran out of their shelters to dig for potatoes when they thought there was a break in the aerial bombardment, when they were strafed by the Luftwaffe. According to the photographer who took the picture, she apparently didn't understand that her sister was gone...she was saying things like "Why won't you speak to me?" and "What will become of me without you?"
