In order to ensure that no one in Germany would be able to deny the holocaust, German civilians and soldiers were forced to view the dead in person or in movies. Many of them were also forced to bury them. And last but not least, many German civilians actually volunteered to do this important work.

There was an excellent video that was made from reels of russian films found after the war, that documented these burials by german soldiers who were forced to do this under the watchful eye of allied soldiers. Riveting. It aired on PBS or something, like 10 years ago.
