Re: The Faces of World War I
The "skin tubes" are called a flap procedure. A flap is a unit of tissue that is transferred from one site (donor site) to another (recipient site) while maintaining its own blood supply. Flaps come in many different shapes and forms. They range from simple advancements of skin to composites of many different types of tissue. These composites need not consist only of soft tissue. They may include skin, muscle, bone, fat, or fascia. How does a flap differ from a graft? A flap is transferred with its blood supply intact, and a graft is a transfer of tissue without its own blood supply. Therefore, survival of the graft depends entirely on the blood supply from the recipient site. |

Re: The Faces of World War I
thanks i thought theyh looked like some kind of feeder tube so that is basically what they are also i know a lot of ppl say they wouldnt want to live like this but once you are out of pain think of your face in a mask with your mind intact i think most of us would have a sense of survival and of wanting to live even with this kind of disfigurment mentally and emotionally you would have to make an adjustment and if you could you could have a decent life not everyone can do it but i doubt everyone who says they would rather die really would if i could could function and not be in extreme pain and if my mind worked at all i would want to live |

Re: The Faces of World War I
some of these look like shots of the same people over time, documenting their progress. shots 16-20 look like the same guy, photographed over time to explain the procedure step by step. interesting! |
