Re: Execution By Garotting
Perhaps. OR, as sometimes occurred with the guillotine, the person might be fully conscious and aware but unable to move or breathe, thereby dying with no way to signal they are still "there". Try holding your breath for two minutes and see who "comfortable" and "humane" it feels. Who knows if death by hanging or garotte that cuts the spinal cord creates instant unconsciousness or not. 10 years ago I broke my neck and was numb for an hour from the neck down. Feeling s l o w l y came back but for that hour it was very uncomfortable to be fully aware but "disconnected" from myself. Since then I've wondered if hanging and your neck snapping is like that. Full awareness but being unable to let anyone know because everything is disconnected from the brain.

Re: Execution By Garotting
I posted on this subject a while ago without any replies. I questioned if the last Garrotes used in Spain in the 70's were a departure from the classic ligature or band around the neck. Were they a much more sophisticated device that instead used a clamp around the neck with a ratcheting mechanisim that drew the clamp inward instead of constricting a band or wire? I've never seen a photograph of the last garrotes, but a motion picture depiction of an execution by the facist regime at the time showed a complex, refined mechanism and restraint system that bore little relation to the simple garrotes depicted in these old photographs.
