They do look like they died during child birth, but it looks almost like the baby is still there stuck in the birth canal, why didn't the doctors save the babies if that is what it looks like.

I've seen these pictures (2 &3) before in a book by Stanley Burns. He has a lot of books about medical practices and death. If memory serves me correct, the second pic is a 25 year old civil war vet with gangrene on his foot. That was taken before surgery. The third pic was after they amputated his foot, and supposedly the anesthesia that was used made him look a bit different (i.e. less hot).
