Otherwise, if you are unfamiliar and want basic knowledge read on. The American Civil War lasted for 4 years from the years 1861 ending in 1865 when the Confederates surrendered to the Union. The war started erupting after Abraham Lincoln was elected in the 1860 elections. Shortly after that 7 states succeeded from the union wanting to completely separate themselves from the United States of America being their very own country with no affiliation with the U.S whatsoever. 4 more states joined shortly after making 11 southern states to succeed. The succeeded states called themselves the Confederate States of America selecting Jefferson Davis as the president of their new found and self proclaimed " Country". The northern states, or remainder states not going with the flow of this madness called themselves the Union. The Union was republican run, by their leader Abraham Lincoln. The Union was Anti Slavery, whilst the south wanted more. Shit got real when the Confederates attacked Fort Sumpter a Union Army Fort. The Civil war took more casualties than any other war to date. Probably because both parties were American people, therefore doubling the fatality count. Also; confederates killed in the war were never buried by the Union Soldiers, they absolutely refused to stick the corpses in the ground and would let them sit and rot just like to poke and say 'ha ha fuck you I won'. It was said when in battle, fields were covered with dead bodies, fresh, old, piled up and rotting. You couldn't take a single step without stepping on at least 5 bodies. Meanwhile, back at the ranch due to the war there was a major inflation and those left behind at homesteads were growing poor quickly, leaving women and children to starve to death or die from disease. These factors are responsible for a big part of why the Confederates surrendered to the Union in 1865. There were many battles fought in the Civil war, but the more known famous one is Gettysburg, which is in VA. In many of these battles, many civilians were killed as their homes were invaded and used for safe zones to shoot enemies from, steal food from the already starving, or used as temporary medical wards. The case of Jenny Wade was one of this, where a stray bullet went through the wall and a door of her sisters home whom she was visiting and penetrated her heart I believe, killing her quickly. The house still stands, with the bullet holes in place and a bed with a mannequin in it depicting the event of the death of Jenny who died at 20 years old. Regardless, these were some ugly times for all American people. If you weren't grieving for the loss of a family member(s) killed in war, a child being sick and dying or starvation like most were... you would get shot by a stray bullet flying aimlessly at a missed target and most likely die. Most people were simply put.... screwed. The insane part to me, was that the Confederates made their slaves fight in a war against those fighting to free them. But surprised; as the Confederates were, most of these slaves forced to fight; secretly helped the Union soldiers while playing cool with the Confederates basically setting them up for failure. So after 4 years of brutal war, and an estimated 160,000 dead, starvation outside of war and mass casualties from disease and sickness.... the confederates threw in the towel and surrendered in June of 1865. The result of this, brought amendments 13, 14 and 15. This is when the whole assassination conspiracy came into play. John Wilkes Booth was a semi famous, good looking young actor and a major Confederate supporter who loathed Lincoln. He conspired with Lewis Powell, David Herold, George Atzerdot, John Surratt and Mary Surratt to kidnap Lincoln and take him to the Confederates as a ploy to regain control of the already finished war. All in the party agreed to kidnap, however it was later found that George Atzerdot wanted out when Booth made it known he later planned to murder. Booth told Atzerdot it was too late to leave the group as he was 'in too deep'. Mary Surratt was John Surratt's mother, this one was a sad case to me. After the assassination, and capture of all but John, the jury agreed to let Mary (who it's questionable if she had much to do with any of the plots at all) go if he would turn himself in. Shockingly, the bastard saved himself and let his mother get hung for the shit that he started. He is a real piece of work. We will get into this in a few.... Anyways, so the crew of Booth planned to capture the president, and attempted it but failed as minor things got in their way and they couldn't pull it off successfully. On a fluke, on the morning of April 14th 1865 Booth went to gather his mail and discovered that Lincoln along with his wife Mary Todd were going to attend the play 'Our American Cousin' at Fords theater that night. So he ran and told his crew and they made a plan. The plan was that Booth would kill Lincoln, Lewis Powell would off Secretary of state William H. Seward, and George Atzerdot would kill Vice President Andrew Johnson at his hotel. Booth all for this plan went into the theater during the middle of the play, walked into the presidential booth pulled his revolver and shot Lincoln in the back of the head at close range. After some commotion of some dudes that tried to stop Booth from escaping like Major Rathbone (were not even getting into that) failed after being stabbed by Booth. Booth jumped over the balcony onto the floor about 12 feet below, catching his spur on a decorative flag hanging making him land wrong resulting in a broken left fibula and he still ran free after yelling in latin " Sic Semper Tyrannis" meaning 'The South is Avenged'. 10:00 P.M Lewis Powell, was to murder the Secretary of State William H. Seward. Powell arrived with David Herold (the get away... horseman who was the only one who knew his way out of there) at the residence of Seward. Secretary Seward was recently injured from falling from a horse and was still bed ridden from his injuries which consisted of a broken arm, concussion and broken jaw in 2 places. Powell the smart chap he was walked right up to the door, told the door man he had medicine for Secretary Seward that his doctor asked Powell to deliver so he could show Seward how to take the medication. After hesitation the door man let him in. Heading up the stairs Powell met Sewards son in the hallway, who asked why Powell was there, after giving the same story the son didn't buy it, and Powell quickly pulled his bowie knife and lunged at him, when he hit him, the son started yelling murder... the snot nosed daughter came from Seward's room yelling because 'he woke their dad' basically instructing Powell (who wasn't sure where Seward was at to begin with) on exactly where to go. Realizing he didn't off the son, he drew his gun which misfired and ruined the intended murder weapon, so he again grabbed his knife and started slicing at the son. The daughter again opened the door when she saw her brother bloodied lying on the floor she screamed. Powell pushed the door open throwing the daughter out in the process barricading the door to where the Secretary slept. In an unlit room with only a knife to do the deed, he swung it aimlessly in the air until he struck the bed, he didn't give up until he got a body, and when he did get the body, he stabbed Seward's head and neck running the knife right through the side of his cheek. Seward surely would have had his jugular sliced if it hadn't been for the slings he wore from his previous jaw injury. Powell finally striking his target, assumed he had done his deed and bolted through the window to his get away horseman Herold, who got scared with all the noise and commotion and took off leaving Powell to fend for himself. 10:00 PM George 'classy' Atzerdot, was to kill Vice President Johnson, he went to the hotel where Johnson was staying went to the bar to gussy up the courage and struck up a conversation with the bartender who told him much about Johnson's personality and mannerisms. George was ready with a knife and a revolver, but after a drink too many staggered out of Johnson's hotel and walked to his hotel tossing his knife into the bushes along the way. Went to his room and slept off his drunkenness. Meanwhile, the people at Fords theater are trying to deal with the president who was just shot and decided taking him in a bumpy carriage to the White House was not a good idea, so they took the seriously injured president across the street to William Petersen's Boarding house lying the very tall president diagonally across the bed where he would die the next day April 15th at 7:22 A.M. Booth with his injured leg was still fleeing, he went to gather supplies at a spot in Suarattsville where he met up with the run away horseman Herold. The pair went to Dr. Samuel A. Mudd's house where Dr. Mudd fixed Booth's leg, and made him a pair of hand crafted crutches. This is where the expression "Your name is Mud" comes from, meaning your a pile of shit. After spending the day at Dr. Mudd's home the two set off again hiring a man to lead them to Samuel Cox's house, where they stayed, and then Cox took them to a Thomas Jones who hid the two in a swamp for 5 days. When they set off again, they landed at Richard Garretts tobacco farm on April 24th. Claiming to be wounded Confederate soldiers, they were allowed to stay inside the barn on the property to sleep and gain shelter. The Union soldiers caught wind of this and met them there surrounding the barn threatening to set it on fire if they didn't give themselves up. Herold the chicken shit he is as proven with leaving Powell behind, caved and ran right out, where they tied him up. Booth stayed inside the barn. The soldiers set the barn on fire as promised, and Booth scurried to the back door screaming 'I die for my country' being a jackass while trying to escape. One soldier arrived named Boston Corbett, who saw Booth inside the barn through a hollowed out knot in the wood, panicked and shot his gun hitting Booth at the base of his neck severing his spinal cord. The men went inside and got Booth out, laid him on the ground and Booth's last words were "Useless" then he died. The other conspirators were hung July 7 1865, all but John the sleezy piece of shit, who ran away after setting plans, stirring the pot and getting scared because he realized these people were serious and they were going to actually do it. Dr. Samuel Mudd introduced John Surratt to John Wilkes Booth in 1864. John Surratt joined Booth and his clan and planned to abduct President Lincoln. They all met March 15 where plans were laid for a March 17 kidnapping that went sour. On the night of April 14, Surratt (according to he and he only) was in New York. He fled to Canada after learning of the President's assassination. He remained in Canada until after his mother's execution. Which if you recall the courts said they would free her in trade for him because she really had little to do with the whole ordeal, other than feed the boys sandwiches and pay the rent. She basically had the attitude, boys will be boys, and happened to have birthed the fuck stain John who had a bad taste in friends. So after his mother was hung for his wrong doing John Surratt crossed the Atlantic, settling in Rome. While visiting Egypt in 1866, Surratt was identified as the wanted Lincoln assassination conspirator and arrested. Surratt was brought back to the United States for his involvement in the conspiracy but all charges were dropped and he was set free. I included the piece of shit John in the images, when he was younger and one aged. I know it's a lot but I shortened it up and left out a lot actually. If you don't know much about this whole thing it is very fascinating. A lot was going on back then, and it's a really neat little blurb in our history. Anyways, if you want to read up on it there are accounts of it everywhere online, in movies, books etc. I am and have always found all of this to be really interesting. Regardless, I hope you enjoy |

The gun was very popular among prostitutes back then, sorta like now days with AK-47's and middle eastern people.

Re: The Civil War and the Assassination of Lincoln
I know its so horrible! I've always been so fascinated by these times and have read much about it. Some of the things we did to these people will stick with me forever. Makes me so sad. I read a book I don't recall the name of it now but it was narratives of freed slaves and it was so in depth about the horrors they faced daily. Images that will never leave my mind. |

Re: The Civil War and the Assassination of Lincoln
I know what you mean....burned in my memory. I have come across slave narratives and find them fascinating. Nothing like reading from their own words what they went through. Some of the most enthralling reads I have come across. To think you can own another person is just madness. |
