I remember riding in cars like that as a kid. The comfort of those sofa seats with springs. Seatbelts were lapbelts only, so a good collision would dash the drivers brains out on the steering wheel. Dad would yell, "better put your belts on back there!" once or twice a week, when he was about to perform some sporty driving on the new interstate highways in the Chevy Impala station wagon. Otherwise, we didn't wear them. About 60,000 would die per year in the 1960's in car accidents, as many as the entire Vietnam War.
