Cannibalism in Russian Carelia
These pictures were taken at Seesjärvi (Seeslake), by Finnish soldier with his own camera. It all began when the Red Army patrol was placed to follow the road of Finnish rear in the spring of 1942. When the patrol had completed its mission, Seesjärvi was melted and backtrack broken. The Soviets were encircled for two months and had even entered the battle with the Finns, when lost radio contact their own forces. At that point, the group came to an end with the last remaining food stocks, in which case they ended up in a situation where two patrol members out of four decided to slay the one and eat him. The group consisted of the remaining two Finnish-born defected to the Soviet Union and two Ukrainian soldiers. The other Ukrainian was murdered. The Finns surprised this group in cooking situation, and the story goes that one of the Finno-Ugric soldiers had brazenly declared that human flesh tastes really good, like a chicken. It was held during the war an evidence of the Communists surpassing cruelty. Pictures are of body parts also with severed head and skinned human skin. |
