You notice that the swastika is horizontal. That was a completely different symbol and not the version used by the Nazi's. Theirs was always rotated so a point of the square was on top.

Well turn your head to a 45 degree angle and there ya go! And many old buildings still have swastika designs in them. One of the rec. buildings at Indiana University has them all over.

Wonder if you could get away with using one knowing it's original context?
As far as I know, it's still used today in places like India. I remember reading a debate on LJ awhile back about tattoos for them where most users agreed that the placement should be in a place it can't be easily seen. And even so, be prepared to explain what it means when people ask, probably in a rage. Ha. Too much trouble.

I think that's where it originated in India. I have seen the German versian pictured as the Canadians are wearing. Hitler was a fucking asshole. What else can you say?
