I wondered that too.. depends on where the polio struck them..seams to be many kinds of polio. Some people had to stat in iron lung all thier lives some got better with time.

Not that I think Alfred Hitchcock was a doctor, but, they had an episode where the woman, who was probably in her 40's or so, could come out 45 minutes at a time. I do not know if it was once a day or what. Hard to tell the age of people in old shows because they all looked so much older drinking, smoking and coffee fiends! |

Yes. Without the iron lung the patient would not have the muscular strength to breathe on his own. I remember one of the last polio victim died recently ( last fifteen years ) because the power went out for something like 5mins and she passed away.
