Re: The Body of Edith Howard Cook (aka "Miranda Eve")

Normally, at the base of the casket, usually on the bottom end, is a plug, and under that plug is a small tube that can hold info about the dead person inside. I assume they don't always put anything in there, but I think it has been tradition to include it for well over 100 years. I wonder if they looked to see if a casket plug is there, and does it have anything in it.
The other option would be finding out who owned the property through the years, and then checking the newspaper morgue for information that might turn up regarding that family. People didn't just go dig a hole and stick a family member in it any old place. At least, not as late as the 1890's.

They did research to find out who she was. Even DNA testing with relatives to confirm identity.

Absolutely remember this. She was part of a family plot and they moved all the caskets but hers I think.

I wouldn’t remove a hundred plus year old coffin the person was laid to rest I’d let it be

This is a fantastic find. I was curious about exactly the same thing when I read that the angelic image going around was specifically to “retouch” those details.

Awesome! I remember this, and I'd wondered what she looked like. Too bad no one took a picture before her body deteriorated.

And didn't they put Rosalia in a special container designed to prevent her from decaying?
It wasn't a special casket fpr Rosalia. She had a really good mortician that had a brilliant method of embalming and he kept it a secret and took it to the grave with him.

Yes, I know about her preservation (btw they did figure out how it was done). But recently she has been showing signs of decomp so they put her & her coffin in a special container to prevent further deterioration.

I live in the Bay Area but have no recollection of this.
