Bayeux-Calvados Award Photograph From Afghanistan
A handout picture made available on 12 October 2008 by the VII network, shows the picture which won the Bayeux-Calvados awards in the photography category by photographer Balaz Gardi.

The photograph shows a US Soldier from Battle Company, 2nd Battalion 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment (Airborne) collapse in exhaustion during Operation Rock Avalanche at Korengal Valley, East Afghanistan, 25 October 2007 . Korengal Valley is among the deadliest pieces of terrain in the world for US Forces. The six miles long strategic passage is located in north-eastern Afghanistan surrounded by treacherous mountain ridges, which are held desperately by the Taliban and al-Qaeda.

Nearly one-fifth of all combat in Afghanistan occurs in this valley, and nearly three-quarters of all the bombs dropped by NATO planes target the surrounding area.

You get use to it. Trust me you don't notice the weight at all when people are shooting at you. It's the in between marches the weight sucks.
