The Armenian Genocide *GRAPHIC WARNING*

The Armenian Genocide AKA The Armenian Holocaust is by far one of the most horrific crimes against humanity, more or less evil events to ever take place! In the early 20th century, during World War I c. 1915 or 1914, 1.5 million people lost their lives in a variety of gruesome ways (mainly women & children). It was not uncommon for people to be drowned, burned alive, decapitated, thrown off cliffs, or women to be brutally raped and bayoneted during multiple death marches, as well as even crucified and had their heads bashed in with the blunt end of rifles. Whole families were literally wiped out in a matter of only days. Sadly it is also rather little-known by most people. Even still to this day, the Turkish government refuses to apologize for the war atrocities or admit that it was 'Genocide'. composed of four descendants of Armenian Genocide survivors, has promoted awareness of the Armenian Genocide through its lyrics, including P.L.U.C.K. and in live concerts. On 23 April 2015, the band performed a free concert in the Republic Square, Yerevan to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the genocide. In 2016, the German government even went on to recognize it as being one of the most terrible Genocides to ever take place in history, which made Turkey furious.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide The first feature film about the Armenian Genocide, a Hollywood production titled Ravished Armenia, was released in 1919. It was produced by the American Committee for Armenian and Syrian Relief and based on the account of survivor Aurora Mardiganian, who played herself. It resonated with acclaimed director Atom Egoyan, influencing his 2002 Ararat. Several movies are based on the Armenian Genocide including the 2014 drama film The Cut (2014), 1915: The Movie, (2015) and The Promise (2016).

First photograph is of a mutilated Croatian-born child from Kosutice, Serbian Chetnik that had his heart ripped out with a knife by the soldiers.

Third photograph is of an Armenian man who returned home from service after being injured only to find his entire family (wife & children) slain.

The ninth photo is of Armenian boys (around the ages of 12 - 17) who were orphaned due to the Armenian Genocide were-conscripted into the Turkish army by Kazim Karabekir to fight against Armenia during the Turkish Armenian War of 1920.

Very sobering. So much history is swept under the rug (so it seems) but these pics give mute testimony these events did happen, lest we 'forget'.

Re: The Armenian Genocide *GRAPHIC WARNING*

The historical context is relevant here. Remember, the Armenians were a sizable Christian minority (over 20 percent of the population of Turkey was Christian at that time) living in an Islamic nation which was then at war with the Christian west (WW 1). Thus they were perceived by the Turks as a potentially dangerous fifth column. I'm not saying that this justifies the massacre, but it does give some insight into why the Ottoman Turks feared and loathed the Armenian Christian minority.

Re: The Armenian Genocide *GRAPHIC WARNING*

Anti-Armenian feelings erupted into mass violence several times in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. When, in 1894, the Armenians in the Sasun region refused to pay an oppressive tax, Ottoman troops and Kurdish tribesmen killed thousands of Armenians in the region. Another series of mass killings began in the fall of 1895, when Ottoman authorities’ suppression of an Armenian demonstration in Istanbul became a massacre. In all, hundreds of thousands of Armenians were killed in massacres between 1894 and 1896, which later came to be known as the Hamidian massacres. Some 20,000 more Armenians were killed in urban riots and pogroms in Adana and Hadjin in 1909.

Re: The Armenian Genocide *GRAPHIC WARNING*

What's really sad is that the film about the Armenian Genocide, Ravished Armenia AKA Auction of Souls (1919), was originally supposed to be 90 minutes but due to its content and poor film preservation efforts, most of it is still considered lost. Only 24 of those 90 minutes have been found, restored and subsequently released to the public. According to the Trivia section on IMDB, "The film is mostly lost. In 2009 a 24-minute reconstruction was released, incorporating stills, title cards and the only reel of footage known to have survived. This was the first film ever made on the subject of the Armenian Genocide (1915-23), which was still going on while this film was produced. The screenplay was taken from Aurora Mardiganian's first-hand account of her experiences in 1915.

She was from Cemisgezek, Turkey, and as a 14-year-old girl witnessed horrible events, including the destruction of her people and the loss of her family and relatives one after another. She arrived in the US and recounted her story to the American Committee for Armenian and Syrian relief. Her account was then made into a film, and she starred as herself, reliving her experiences over and over again. She also made public appearances at each film screening across the US. The film was a blockbuster and broke box-office records. Unfortunately, only fragments of the film survive. Model and actress Audrey Munson reported, for a syndicated newspaper column, on the filming of one of the most notorious scenes: several nude Armenian women being crucified by Turks. The scene was shot at the very end of a long, very cold day. Munson reported that one of the actresses, Corinne Gray, died of influenza as a result of exposure while filming this scene.

According to Wikipedia: "The Selig production, which used several thousand Armenian residents of southern California as extras, was filmed in 1918-1919 near Newhall, California. During a scene in which Mardiganian was escaping from a harem by jumping from one roof to another she fell and broke her ankle. The production, however, continued with Mardiganian being carried to each set for her scenes.

The film shows young Armenian girls being "crucified" by being nailed to crosses. However, almost 70 years later Mardiganian revealed to film historian Anthony Slide that the scene was inaccurate and went on to describe what was actually an impalement. She stated that "The Turks didn't make their crosses like that. The Turks made little pointed crosses. They took the clothes off the girls. They made them bend down, and after raping them, they made them sit on the pointed wood, through the vagina. That's the way they killed – the Turks. Americans have made it a more civilized way. They can't show such terrible things."

H.L. Gates later ghostwrote a 20-part newspaper series for "Queen of the Artists' Studios" Audrey Munson in which he described the filming of the crucifixion scene in the California desert and said that one of the 12 artist's models employed for the scene died several days later from influenza as a result of the exposure during filming. He named the dead woman as Corinne Gray out of respect for the family and by doing so, gave her anonymity.
