Arachnodactyly (“spider Fingers”)

Arachnodactyly (“spider fingers”) or achromachia, is a condition in which the fingers are abnormally long and slender in comparison to the palm of the hand. It can be present at birth or develop in later life.

It is also seen in some cases that all or a few fingers can be bent backwards of 180 degrees.

Re: Arachnodactyly (“spider Fingers”)

I bet if you lined up Nicolo Paganini/Buckethead/Paul Gilbert, you'd see similarly spider-like fingers on them all. It was believed that Paganini had Marfan syndrome (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marfan_syndrome), of which it appears arachnodactyly can be a symptom.

Not sure about the other two having that condition, other than they are tall (both 6'4") and have very similar-looking hands. But all were/are amazing musical virtuosos, in part due to their amazing hands.

Re: Arachnodactyly (“spider Fingers”)

Just for reference, here's a good shot of Paul Gilbert's large and spidery hand.
