Ancient Greece's the Brazen Bull..
Brazen Bull or the Sicilian Bull is a execution device designed in ancient Greece. Perillos of Athens, a brass-founder, proposed to Phalaris, the tyrant of Akragas, Sicily, the invention of a new means for executing criminals. Accordingly, he cast a bull, made entirely of brass, hollow, with a door in the side. The condemned were shut in the bull and a fire was set under it, heating the metal until it became yellow hot and causing the person inside to roast to death. The bull was designed in such a way that its smoke rose in spicy clouds of incense. The head of the ox was designed with a complex system of tubes and stops so that the prisoner’s screams were converted into sounds like the bellowing of an infuriated bull. It is also said that when the bull was reopened, the scorched bones of the remains shone like jewels and were made into bracelets. talk about a horrible way of dying |

Quite interesting  I briefly heard about this either in a book, movie, or show. For some reason Dexter is coming to mind but definitely seen this used during some kind of scene. |

Similar effect in that remake of Little Red Riding Hood, can't remember the name of it.. some boy gets killed like that. =[

You forgot the best part of the story! The guy who invented it was ordered to be the first victim of the Brazen Bull so that Perillos could see how it worked! |

Perillos invented it: he was locked in, and the fire was set, so that Phalaris could hear his screams but before he could die, Phalaris opened the door of the Brazen Bull and took him away. Saving his life? Not exactly. Instead of getting a reward for his invention, Perillos was thrown from the top of a hill (by order of Phalaris), and died unhappily that way. However, Phalaris, who was definitely a cruel and sadistic arsehole, died burned in his own brazen bull after the uprising headed by Telemachus. |
