I actually have one of these somewhere in my house. must have belonged to a great great grandparent of mine. it was of a baby, very sad.

Up until 1960, They still did these type of photos where I come from in Rural Northern California. When my Uncle died at age 5, the entire family took a Victorian style mourning photo. I discover it when I was 7 years old. It freaked me out!!!!

Sad, but they meant a lot to the family I'm sure. Having lost a child, I understand why they did it. I think they are beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

They may have been dour because they had to sit completely still and not move their faces for a minute or so.
