African Americans Collecting Bones Of Soldiers

This photograph, taken by John Reekie and printed by Alexander Gardner, shows a burial party dealing with the remains of Union soldiers killed in the June 1864 battles of Gaines’ Mill and Cold Harbour. The scale of the casualties meant that bodies lay untouched, decomposing on the ground for 10 months, until the war had ended.
Thanks to Kelly for the information

It's hilarious this guy in the front had time to pose with the bones, while his fellows are working hard
