Three young sisters died in a freak farm accident in central Alberta, Canada, leaving behind a distraught family and a grieving community.

The girls, Catie, 13, and 11-year-old twins Jana and Dara, were playing on a truck loaded with canola seeds and somehow fell in, authorities said. The grain, which acted like quicksand, sucked the girls under Tuesday evening.

I don't know if the method for quick sand would work in this case or not. I don't know that I'd do in that situation. Very sad.

this is why you never let kids play on farm equipment!! the parents should be in jail!! grain is very dangerous when its being unloaded!! why on earth would you let your kids around the truck being unloaded!!!

Shortly after 6pm local time on the evening of October 13, 2015 tragedy struck a multi-generational farming family located near Withrow, AB. While unloading canola in the yard, the family's 3 daughters became entrapped in the canola, and subsequently lost their lives.

the grain wasn't being actively unloaded when the incident happened, obviously, or one of the operators would have seen the kids and acted accordingly. the way I see it: after the loading depot was shut down and all the workers went home, one of the kids climbed on to the surface of a full truck load of grain, began sinking, then another tried to help, same thing, repeat....nobody would have expected it or predicted it. perhaps an experienced adult would maybe have the composure to spread eagle and stop thrashing around until someone could pull them to safety, but, these were just kids.
