NOPD: Boys, 6 and 11, accused of threatening man with gun in Marigny

he incident happened about 12:35 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Royal and Marigny streets.

Police said a victim saw the two boys rummaging through the bed of his parked truck and approached the two children.

According to a news release from the New Orleans Police Department, the boys began to immediately yell obscenities toward him. Moments later, the 11-year-old boy pulled a pistol from his waistband and threatened to shoot the victim if he didn’t leave them alone, police said.

NOPD officers saw the duo in the 3000 block of Chartres Street after a witness alerted authorities.

The pair was booked into the Juvenile Division on charges of aggravated assault and illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile. The 11-year-old was arrested. The 6-year-old boy was processed and placed in the custody of his legal guardian.

A 6-year-old boy and 11-year-old boy were apprehended for pointing a gun at a man in the Marigny on Friday afternoon, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

The incident happened at about 12:30 p.m. near the intersection of Royal and Marigny streets.

Police say the two young boys were "rummaging" through the back of a parked truck. When they were approached by the victim, they pulled out a gun and began yelling obscenities at him.

At that point, the 11-year-old boy pulled out a pistol and said he'd shoot the man if he didn't go away.

Officers were able to arrest the boy soon after in the 3000 block of Chartres Street. The victim positively identified the boys.

The 11-year-old boy is being held in the NOPD's Juvenile Division for aggravated assault and illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile. The 6-year-old was released to a legal guardian after he was "processed as a form of data collection," according to the NOPD.
