Re: Wrongfully Convicted Man Released from Jail After 34 Years

"When Adams requested a meeting with the detectives on his burglary case, Venezia spoke with Adams. Adams claims to have been given alcohol and narcotics during an hour that last longer than four hours."

During an interrogation that lasted longer than four hours?

I'm glad he is free now. But it's horrible that he was sent to prison in the first place. What is going to happen to the people involved in that?

Re: Wrongfully Convicted Man Released from Jail After 34 Years

I really wish there was SOME system in place for punishing the people responsible for such wrongful convictions. Who holds the US responsible for all the people who spend DECADES in prison, or even worse those exonerated after executions?

Nobody, apparently

Re: Wrongfully Convicted Man Released from Jail After 34 Years

Adams was convicted of the murder and received a life sentence in Angola
this is why i am pro life sentencing and against the death penalty. 34 years... this man would have been executed in that time had he received a death sentence. instead of killing an innocent man, one was freed.

I agree 100%. And this is why many people are against the death penalty.

I think execution should be used ONLY in cases where there is absolutely no doubt that the criminal is guilty of murder. Witnesses, video, DNA, over whelming evidence so an innocent person is never put to death.

Instances like this are a tragedy.

I agree, but how does a case meet the requirements? How do you know the evidence is interpreted properly?

Admission of guilt rule #1
The judicial system isn't perfect, this is true.
I'm still for the death penalty regardless.
Especially when the evidence overwhelmingly proves the case. When u are face to face with the man that puts a shotgun in your lovers mouth & pulls the trigger, there is no doubt. But even eyewitness can be wrong. So there is no perfect system.
