PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. - July 30, 2012 (WPVI) -- Police in Atlantic County are investigating the theft of a body from a mausoleum. Officers were called around 11:00 a.m. Friday to the Atlantic City Cemetery at Route 9 and Pennsylvania Avenue in Pleasantville. Upon arrival, officers discovered the front door of a mausoleum was damaged and opened. "Inside laid a casket which was damaged, and upon further inspection of the casket, the remains had been removed," Captain Rocky Melendez of the Pleasantville Police Department said. Melendez says the mausoleum has six gravesites; the body that was taken was on the bottom right side. According to officials, the body of the missing person was placed in the mausoleum in 1996. "It's despicable for someone to come and desecrate someone's resting place, and not only desecrate the place, but to steal the body, it's beyond words," Melendez said. Melendez says this incident is as disconcerting to police as it is to the family. "[The family] is confused about this whole situation, they are surprised. They're upset, as they should be," Melendez said. Police say they are looking at similar incidents that may have occurred in other towns in New Jersey. Anyone with information on this crime is asked to contact the Pleasantville Police Department at 609-641-6100." /> PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. - July 30, 2012 (WPVI) -- Police in Atlantic County are investigating the theft of a body from a mausoleum. Re: Woman's Body Stolen From Mausoleum in NJ
I think it's wrong to disturb the dead, but, someone on here told me they don't mind. I don't know. Some things just aren't right to me. I'm hoping a family member took the body because he/she expects foul play or for some crime, although I'm not sure why they'd just steal it. I hope it's not like, "The Strange Obsession of Dr. Carl Von Cosel", who stole his love's body and kept it in his home until he got busted. This was a bizarre love story. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/tL9Q6qex6Uk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

Re: Woman's Body Stolen From Mausoleum in NJ
I love that video! I felt bad for Dr. Von Cosel. I'm a huge fan of Dr. Michael Baden. Are you familiar with his, "HBO Autopsy Series"? Good stuff! He testified in the O.J. Simpson case and determinded Nancy Spungen, Sid Vicious' annoying girlfriend, was a homicide. Honestly, from the condition Sid was supposedly in, I can't imagine it was done on purpose. I think they were playing around and she fell on the knife ;) Dr. Baden believes Sid may have been a suicide, but, there were alot of drugs left next to him. He had been clean while in jail and the heroin was close to pure instead of 8 or 10% that he was used to. |
