New Jersey police said the suspect in a hit-and-run incident over the weekend has had 52 driver’s license suspensions and 16 moving violations since getting her license in 1986.

WCAU-TV reported on Monday that authorities arrested 44-year-old Michele Toussaint in connection with the incident that hospitalized Catherine Calalang, 28, and her 20-year-old cousin, Laurene Jiminez.

Toussaint is accused of driving on a suspended license when she hit the two women on Saturday.

Jiminez is reportedly in critical condition, having suffered broken ribs, a punctured lung and head injuries. Calalang, who was able to call for help after being hit, lost five of her teeth but is listed in stable condition.

“She’s traumatized,” said Calalang’s fiancee, Josh Llamas. “Every time she closes her eyes she sees the car.”

Police said they arrested Toussaint after stopping a vehicle making an illegal turn and finding she was the passenger. Toussant, who said she was being taken by a relative to turn herself in, was arrested and charged with causing injury while driving on a suspended license, endangering an injured victim, and leaving the scene of an accident. She is in jail on $62,500 bail.

I still think DMV needs to be a lot stricter in who they give a license to. One of the reasons I have a dash camera.

You can't stop people like her with suspension. The only way to make an impression is to give progressive sentences as they continue to push the envelope...first time 6 months, second time two years, and so on.

This disgusts me. Selfish, careless, reckless, stupid, bitch.
I have to agree that the DMV needs to be more careful with who the give a licenses too. Even though I would hate to go every 2 years to renew it and take a new test, if it would keep more idiots off the road, I would do it. I live in an area where people slam on the breaks every 10 seconds, even though there's no one in front of them. Drives me banana's.

Diamond you are right though, people like her don't give a rats ass. She obviously drives regardless of her DL being valid or not.

Here on the freeways going 65-70MPH people drive 10 feet apart from each other. At night you see one person brake and then everyone behind them brakes then the lanes next to them brake because they think something crazy happened and everyone is stopping. And people wonder why there's always traffic in California I keep 3-4 seconds behind cars and rarely have to brake between having enough distance and driving a manual.

Another thing that bugs me is people race toward red lights. I try to time the lights so I don't have to stop and those people always ruin my plans haha.

I think we should start teaching kids to drive around 13 on a closed track. Could rent it out on the weekends for autocrossing/racing. Safer drivers and less street racing

How do you leave not one, but, two, people there and not check on them?

I had a little boy on a bike come out from between parked cars and run into my car years ago. I live on a one way with parking on one side.

I was going slow and his mother saw what happened, but, I jumped out the car with my heart pounding. He didn't fall down, but, it scared the Hell out of me!

People now zoom down the street like it's a race!

They think the crosswalks are decorations and stop signs are just suggestions. If you are already stopped, they just slow down.

My father taught me in a manual transmission and he made me stop, then put the car back in first gear, which he called a, "complete stop".

I always wait for pedestrians, most of whom don't know they have the right of way because they are used to running for their lives on a green light in their direction.

I had two teenage girls tell me no one ever stopped for them when I stopped and waited for them. I told them they had the right of way.

No one's life, (unless I saw you on the news as a child molester or murderer), is worth racing anywhere. I leave early and stay away from the lunatics.

They can race up to the lights and slam on their brakes and get them replaced every 6 months. Mine last 3 or 4 years or so. When I need them, they will work!
