Bangalore: In a shocking incident, a 53-year-old woman's body was found in her bungalow here after nearly five months.
Sheela Reddy's body was found in a decomposed state and half reduced to bones. In what can only be termed as apathetic and puts a question mark on the indifferent ways of our society, no close relatives had visited her for a long time. He body was found after her brother Shankar Reddy came to see her after around six months on August 19.
According to reports, Sheela may have died due to starvation some four to five months ago. As per police, there was no food in the house. However, they said that the reason of her death could be ascertained only after post-mortem.
She owned a bungalow which was two-storied in Indiranagar colony, where retired bureaucrats stay and which is considered to be a prosperous area of Bangalore.
It is said that Sheela, who was a single woman and whose mother had died about a year ago, was depressed as her family members hadn't visited her for a long time. She had also stopped going anywhere.
Strangely, neighbours had complained about an unpleasant smell in the house a few months ago but police had not paid much heed to it.
The case in Bangalore has uncanny resemblance to the one in which two starving sisters of Noida, Anuradha and Sonali, were found in a malnourished and dehydrated state by police in their Sector 29 home in 2011. Both the sisters in their 40s had confined themselves for six months in their house. One of the sisters subsequently died in the hospital.
Vipin Behl, the brother of the two women who was not living with them for the past some years, said he had gone to Bangalore and later shifted to Gurgaon. Behl said he had transferred the parental property to the sisters as well as some fixed deposits.
Anuradha and Sonali were apparently disturbed since their father and mother passed away some years back and their younger brother left them. In the interim period, their pet dog also died after which they slipped into a state of depression.
