Wife Caught Spiking Cherry Lambrini & Misspelling Husband's Fake Suicide Note

A woman who tried to kill her husband by spiking his Christmas cherry Lambrini was caught after she misspelled a fake suicide note which claimed he wanted to "die with dignaty".

Jacqueline Patrick, 54, attempted to poison her husband of 26 years Douglas with the help of their 21-year-old daughter, Katherine, by putting anti-freeze into his drink at least twice during 2013.

Mobile phone messages revealed the mother and daughter had plotted his murder together, discussing how much anti-freeze to use and sending each other text message updates saying, “dad feels sick”.

Patrick admitted two counts of attempted murder at the Inner London Crown Court on Thursday while daughter Katherine, 21, admitted encouraging her to poison her father.

Douglas Patrick, 70, went to bed feeling “particularly drunk” after drinking two glasses of cherry Lambrini after his dinner on Christmas Day at their £400,000 home.

The 70-year-old, from Crystal Palace, south east London, was found collapsed by his wife the following day and she called an ambulance.

Patrick handed a typed note to the paramedics in the ambulance on the way to Kings College Hospital stating her husband did not wish to be revived and falsely claimed it was from him.

He was put into an induced coma and blood tests revealed he was suffering from anti-freeze poisoning.

When doctors told the news to Patrick she then informed them that he might have drunk a blue liquid by mistake - but the doctors decided to call the police.

Officers then went to the couple's home and seized a number of items including bottles of anti-freeze and a bottle of cherry Lambrini.

Patrick told the police her and her family were together on Christmas Day but after an argument Douglas went upstairs to his "den" before coming back to have dinner alone and two glasses of the Lambrini.

She said he was drunk and went to bed but found him collapsed the next morning and called an ambulance.

Mr Patrick regained consciousness on January 8, 2014, and told the police he was not suicidal and had not bought or drank anti-freeze to try and kill himself.

He told them he remembered having two drinks on Christmas Day and, feeling far drunker than he should, had gone to bed.

He also mentioned he suffered a similar collapse in October 2013 which he and his wife had put down to drinking 'bootleg' lager.

Jacqueline Patrick was then arrested on January 9, alongside their daughter Katherine and their accounts in a formal police interview were found to be full of inconsistencies.

Patrick admitted searching for anti-freeze poisoning on the internet, saying her friend's dog had accidentally consumed some but when officers tracked down the "friend" he said he had never owned a dog.

Patrick also admitted buying anti-freeze twice, allegedly at the victim's request.
However, mobile phones belonging to both Jacqueline and Katherine Patrick, which were seized after their arrests, revealed a number of messages between them discussing attempts to poison Douglas.

The messages included:
26.10.13 at 11.37am - I got the stuff I will give him some later delete txt tell no one ok
26.10.13 at 12.41pm - I'll give a little at first I brought it so no one else gets involved
26:10.13 at 5.23pm - I'm given him some more at dinner
17:11:13 at 4.35pm - He feels sick again I gave him more delete this
28.11.13 at 9.20pm - May be some one could attack. Him when he goes to look at the car
28.11.13 at 9.20pm - Delete that
25.12.13 at 11.09pm - Dads not feeling well

Further analysis of the "do not revive" note showed a misspelling of the word dignity as "dignaty" and when asked to write the word, Patrick also misspelt it in the same way.

The women were charged on February 9, initially each with three counts of attempted murder and Katherine Patrick also with inciting or encouraging another to administer a noxious substance.

Jacqueline pleaded guilty at Inner London Crown Court to two counts of attempted murder of her husband and their daughter Katherine admitted one count of inciting another to administer a noxious substance.

Detective Inspector Tracey Miller, from Lambeth police, said: "Mr Patrick came very close to dying and while he lay in his hospital bed fighting for his life, his wife told lie after lie to cover her tracks.

Perhaps most shocking of all was the note she gave to the London Ambulance Service purporting to be from her husband, stating that he did not wish to be resuscitated.”

Both women have been bailed ahead of sentencing, which will take place on November 2 at Inner London Crown Court.

Re: Wife Caught Spiking Cherry Lambrini & Misspelling Husband's Fake Suicide Note

This is why I'm never getting married. Fuck bitches.

Also, the irony is that by putting anti-freeze in alcohol, they may have actually saved his life. Alcohol competes with the antifreeze for the enzymes in the liver that are required to break it down into the toxic form that is poisonous to humans. The cheap-and-nasty treatment for antifreeze poisoning? Vodka IV!

If they had put it in orange juice or something else non-alcoholic, they would have succeeded. Dumb bitches...

If that's a frequent look on her face, are we sure it actually wasn't attempted suicide on his part? Yikes.
