Who's That Girl?
He's been captivated by her gamine features and nonchalant gaze since he captured her image more than 50 years ago. Now the great American documentary photographer Bruce Davidson is determined to find the woman behind one of his favourite photographs, Girl Holding Kitten. Davidson took the girl's photograph somewhere in London in 1960 when she was en route to a concert with two friends and has been haunted by the memory ever since. After spending a few hours with the companions, Davidson persuaded the girl to pose for him carrying her sleeping bag and a kitten but didn't take her name. 'I know it's 50-odd years ago, but someone out there must know who she is, surely', he told the Guardian. Davidson met the tousled-haired girl during a tour around Britain in a Hillman Minx convertible. 'I hung around with them for a few hours. The girl with the kitten, the bedroll and the beautifully innocent, hopeful, mysterious face has stayed with me ever since', he said. The 77-year-old is in the UK to receive the Outstanding Contribution to Photography award at this year's Sony World Photography Awards. He started his eminent career as a photographer for Life magazine, before joining the world-renowned Magnum Photo Agency in 1958. His reputation for getting close to his subjects was cemented after the release of his first successful collection of photographs, Brooklyn Gang, in 1959, for which he befriended a group of teenagers, and in the late 1960s, when he spent three years living with the residents of East 100th Street for another intimate project. But the Girl Holding Kitten still resonates whenever he visits Britain.  · |

i did a google alerts on this so if anything comes up and it is on the web i should find out. and if i remember and can find this thread if anything comes up i will post it.
