What Are the Odds?

A Kentucky man is set to be reunited with his custom prosthetic leg, which was recovered from the Gulf of Mexico by a shrimp boat captain after it became detached in the Gulf of Mexico.

Fred Robinson, a former running back for the University of Kentucky, lost his artificial leg while swimming over the Memorial Day weekend, WKYT-TV reported.

"At some point in time when I was swimming it sucked my leg off," Robinson told the station.

Shrimp boat captain Matt Willingham saw the prosthetic limb — which is emblazoned with the UK logo — floating in the in the Gulf of Mexico off Florida early Thursday.

"That's not something you want to see at 2 a.m.," Willingham said. "I was hoping I wasn't going to find a body with it as well."

He was able to match the leg to Robinson by contacting the prosthetic manufacturer.

"I got the call and I was shocked," Robinson told WKYT. "I just started laughing, 'they found my leg!'"

He said he was surprised at the media attention his missing limb garnered, "but I can understand, because of the UK emblem I have on it."

Robinson plans to pick up his leg and thank Willingham in person Monday, according to WKYT.

He lost his real leg in a 2007 work accident. He has two other prosthetic legs, both of which also have UK-related designs on them.

"I've always just loved UK," Robinson said.

Re: What Are the Odds?

My sister lost her class ring in a lake a county up. Was the only gold piece she had at the time and the most expensive thing mom ever bought her. We were in the lake at night a few nights looking for it. Months later a woman from another state found it and returned it. Lucky!
