Viewing James Foley’s Beheading Online Could Be Regarded As a Terrorist Offence

Welcome to 1984 people

Viewing or sharing the harrowing video of James Foley’s beheading online could be regarded as a terrorist offence, Scotland Yard has warned.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said specialists from the Counter Terrorism unit were continuing to examine the footage in order to look for clues as to the identity of the suspected British jihadist but said the public should refrain from viewing the video.

In a statement a spokesman said: “We would like to remind the public that viewing, downloading or disseminating extremist material within the UK may constitute an offence under Terrorism legislation.”

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe explained that while viewing the video was technically a crime, his officers would be more focused on tracking down those who shared the footage or glorified it.

Meanwhile the file sharing website YouTube announced it was taking action to remove any footage of the brutal execution and close any accounts belonging to terrorists or extremist organisations.

The company, which is owned by Google, took action after a campaign was launched on Twitter encouraging users not to share videos of the murder.

Supporters of the campaign urged users to post images of Mr Foley in happier times before his kidnap in Syria in 2012.

A YouTube spokesman said: “YouTube has clear policies that prohibit content like gratuitous violence, hate speech and incitement to commit violent acts, and we remove videos violating these policies when flagged by our users.

“We also terminate any account registered by a member of a designated foreign terrorist organisation and used in an official capacity to further its interests."

Twitter's chief executive Dick Costolo also said his firm was taking action against accounts which spread the video, posting a message that said: “We have been and are actively suspending accounts as we discover them related to this graphic imagery. Thank you.”

An online campaign aimed at starving terror group IS or Islamic State of the oxygen of publicity, quickly garnered support around the world.

Photographer Paul Conroy, who was injured in Homs, Syria in 2012, said people spreading the video were doing IS's work for it.

He told BBC Radio 5: “In many ways the passing around of these pictures and the videos of James is essentially doing what these people – these murderers – want you to do.

“They want it to go viral, they want as many people in the world to look at it. So in many ways by sharing them and propagating we fall into their hands.

“That's the reason why it's such a stage-managed event.

“What happened was stage-managed by people who are very, very media aware and they know too well that nothing can be banned on the Internet so these images – the video – will go about.”

I couldn't watch it. I watched until he positioned the knife. There is not much on here that bothers me, and this really did.

I did not watch it either. I only viewed the aftermath of the beheading.

I think everyone should watch the video. We are at war with these people. And everyone needs to understand what we're facing. That video is a perfect summary of who these people are and what they're about.
Soon we will be reengaged in Iraq. It's sad it will probably take some horrible event to make it happen.

I don't agree with suppressing the truth, i think EVERYONE should watch it.

Sticking your head in the sand is never the answer.

Re: Viewing James Foley’s Beheading Online Could Be Regarded As a Terrorist Offence

Then I am a terrorist.

This is what I call freedom creep. They will do fuck all to crack down on the real mad fucks amongst us because they are scared of them. What they will do however is pick on decent folk who can fear for their livelihoods and futures.

See that old white couple who live in a quiet Dorset village? They get to be discriminated against because of this bullshit.

meanwhile abdullah and his fuckhead monkey crew can create anti-gay and anti-women zones in our largest towns and cities.

Because being a keen gardener in your old age is tantamount to filling your heart and soul with hatred for dem peskie garden gnomes. Just wait till Jill and hers husband Gerry blow those gnome oppressors to hell!

it seems the intelligence services saw this coming and went; "well, we need something to justify our huge budgets and violation of security laws. Lets just keep these towns and cities full of people who hate us and crack down once everyso-often".

And if you don't believe me, please do me a favour and walk through any town with a significant Muslim presence in the UK at night.

Re: Viewing James Foley’s Beheading Online Could Be Regarded As a Terrorist Offence

In my opinion the video will be counter-productive in their propaganda: it shows a coward half-man beheading a REAL man who looked at death in the face with bravery, showing no signs of fear.
And why to hide the truth anyway: that's what is going on and that IS what media should show, or at least what citizens should be allowed to watch.
I think that not even one western citizen changed his mind nor acquired sympathy for those beasts, after watching the video.
Leave the truth alone.

Re: Viewing James Foley’s Beheading Online Could Be Regarded As a Terrorist Offence

I've noticed for about 3 years now that the accusation of "Terrorism" has been getting used more and more to describe normal crimes. In some cases like this, there's no crime at all, let alone something that warrants a terrorism charge.

What is REALLY going on is our basic rights are being taken from us. When you are arrested under JUST the accusation of a terrorist act, you have absolutely NO RIGHTS.

No one phone call, no guarantee to food, water, no guarantee that there won't be torture, etc. NOTHING! That is how it is written in the U.S. under the patriot act and I'm quiet sure the same applies in the UK and every other so called civilized country.

So, I'll sum it up as follows. VERY soon whenever you are arrested for anything, even J walking, it will be under "terrorism" charges. At that time, you won't have any rights as I mentioned before. Just look at Ferguson and how the police are handling things. We aren't becoming a police state, WE ARE ONE!

People like me were warning people of this day over 20 years ago. We were called conspiracy nuts, crazy, it could never happen here, why should I care, I'm not doing anything illegal, etc.

Under the current laws, EVERY person is breaking a minimum of at least one law a day. Even if it's just tearing the tag off of a mattress, lol.

The definition of terrorism at dictionary.com is as follows,

noun
1.
the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes.
2.
the state of fear and submission produced by terrorism or terrorization.
3.
a terroristic method of governing or of resisting a government.

So under their laws and rules, they can charge you for terrorism for viewing a video like this under definition no. 3. Resisting a government!

Lol, wake up people! The government and corporations are out of control. They couldn't solve a problem with a blueprint. Your hope is not in who the fuck you vote for every two or 4 years! They are all chosen and no one gets a government office honestly. They do nothing but destroy EVERYTHING!

If voting worked, the U.S. would be number 1 in the world in everything. Who the fuck votes and politics more than us? Instead, from manufacturing to education, we come in near the bottom at every turn.

Ok, so there's my rant for now.

PS, does definition No. 1 not describe all of the governments of the world? So who is the terrorist? Lol, just a thought!

Re: Viewing James Foley’s Beheading Online Could Be Regarded As a Terrorist Offence

Lol, update!!!

Just found the U.S. governments way of defining "Terrorism" on the Federal Bureau of Intimidation site. Under their definition, you could be charged for terrorism if you try to convince someone who to vote for. Whether it's through putting up posters of your favorite crooked politician, telling a friend to vote for someone specific, etc. That's coercion to influence the policy of a government. Because most of the time, the political hopeful is trying to get elected by promising to change a law or policy, lol.

Right now, if you smoke weed, you are a terrorist. It's breaking a federal law. According to federal law, it's still a danger to your health.

Anyhow, the U.S. federal definition,

"Domestic terrorism" means activities with the following three characteristics:

Involve acts dangerous to human life that violate federal or state law;
Appear intended (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination. or kidnapping; and
Occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the U.S.

I don't live in the U.K but even if I did, I would still watch it. The video is cut anyway, so it's not that graphic.
