http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/video?id...81&pid=9243072 Video of boy's escape and running to neighbor in clip above Police: Mom, Boyfriend Chained Child to Radiator for 2 Weeks in Camden Updated at 05:08 PM today Florence Pollard and Brian Craig Action News CAMDEN, NJ - September 10, 2013 (WPVI) -- A mother, and her boyfriend, are accused of keeping her 10-year-old son chained to a radiator for the past two weeks inside a home in Camden. Florence M. Pollard, 31, of the 2700 block of Cramer Street and Brian L. Craig, 29, of Blackwood, NJ, were arrested on Monday afternoon. Investigators say it all began around 3:35 p.m. when Pollard called police to say her 10-year-old son had run away. The child was soon found by a neighbor a few blocks away. However, police say, when officers began talking to the child, he allegedly told them he had been chained to a radiator in his mother's bedroom, day and night, and had to sleep on the floor uncovered. The child also allegedly told police that his hands were occasionally restrained by plastic zip ties. He had been chained up as punishment, the child allegedly told police. Camden County police officers searched the home and allegedly found a metal chain and lock used to restrain the boy. The chain was attached to a radiator pipe, police said. "This level of depravity inflicted upon a child is chilling," said Chief J. Scott Thomson in a written statement. "We're just thankful that the child had an opportunity to escape and report what has been going on so we could arrest this couple and put a stop to their cruelty." Florence and Craig were arrested and charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, 2nd degree and Criminal Restraint, 3rd degree. Pollard was remanded to the county jail on bail of $50,000 cash or bond. Craig was remanded to the county jail on bail of $50,000 cash. The boy, along with his five siblings - ranging in age from 11 years old to 7 months old - were taken into custody by the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency. Police say Craig was only the father of the 7-month-old baby. She is pregnant again.  · |
