Vacuum Pipes 'allow for 6500kmh Travel'
It is claimed to be faster, quieter, safer and cheaper than airline travel and you barely leave the ground. A Florida company is seeking investors for a transport system that allows passengers to zip around the world in vacuum-sealed tubes, reaching speeds of up to 6500km/h. In the Evacuated Tube Transport system, travellers would sit in a 1.5m-diameter capsule which shoots along using frictionless magnetic levitation, technology blog io9 reports. The system would initially feature capsules travelling at 600km/h, fast enough to get passengers from Sydney to Melbourne in little more than an hour. If successful, the capsules would then be sped up to travel at ten times that speed, fast enough to travel from Sydney to Los Angeles in just two hours. The tubes would be supported by pylons several metres above the ground, and reportedly cost just 10 percent of the price of a high-speed rail network |
