The Pentagon plans to announce the repeal of its ban on transgender service members July 1, a controversial decision that would end nearly a year of internal wrangling among the services on how to allow those troops to serve openly, according to Defense officials.

Final approval came to Defense Secretary Ash Carter, who announced last year that the ban would be lifted unless a review showed that doing so would have "adverse impact on military effectiveness and readiness."

But concern is raised on Capitol Hill where Rep. Mac Thornberry, the Texan who chairs the Armed Services Committee, is questioning whether an "honest and balanced assessment" had time to be made, stating, "If reports are correct, I believe Secretary Carter has put the political agenda of a departing administration ahead of the military's readiness crisis."

Pentagon officials were unable to answer some of Thornberry's questions, stating that the main focus of the Pentagon's review of the policy has been on the effect of repeal on the military's readiness to fight.

The plan would direct each branch of the armed services over a one-year period to implement new policies affecting recruiting, housing and uniforms for transgender troops, one official said.

The only reason I haven't transitioned into a female yet is because I couldn't pay for it myself. I plan on enlisting in the Army, serving my country, and getting the taxpayers to help pay for my sex change! The US military still needs a lot of work, but this is an amazing first step in the right direction. Now the world will get to see the US military for what it really is - a beacon of hope, freedom, and diversity.

Kids these days are so lucky. Here's some semi-related good news that proves we're heading in a good direction as a country.

• The US military is providing Chelsea/Bradley Manning's requested sex change. He's been in a military prison since 2013, serving 35 years for leaking 750,000 documents to Wikileaks.

I think this will turn out to be a cluster fuck of epic proportions. Transsexualism lies on a very wide spectrum, ranging from individuals who identify as another gender but are comfortable with their innate biology, to those that roll full post-op plus hormones and prefer the company of their former biological gender. The Army usually goes for one-size-fits-all solutions, but transsexuals cannot be so easily shoehorned.

Males that transition to females post-puberty will likely never reach full femininity in terms of muscle mass and distribution, and females that transition to males in a similar fashion will likely never reach full malehood in the same way. Where does that put them in terms of physical training standards? or height and weight? What if a female transitioning to male becomes pregnant? Will he be on pregnancy profile and wear a preggo ACU?

It's not that they shouldn't serve. Anyone willing and able to serve the military should be afforded the opportunity to do so. I just think that the transsexualism spectrum is wide as fuck, and they rushed into this decision without thinking about most of the variables. The administrative ass pain will be epic, and for every legitimate case, you will get one dickhead or bitch that will cry transition just to get out of some fucking field problem.

You say you're transitioning to a female, but dude...wtf you know what you're getting into...the women won't accept you and the men won't either...the military is NO FUCKING JOKE...you WILL be EATEN ALIVE by your "teammates".
