Re: *UPDATE* Philip Seymour Hoffman Found Dead in Manhattan Apartment
People in recovery will tell you it's part of the disease. It's a very selfish thing. All three of my brothers died from alcohol/drug related issues, one leaving a 15 year old, and one leaving 3 older childen, the youngest, 17, and 3 grandchildren. It is a helpless feeling to watch them destroy themselves with nothing you can do I tried the mean and loving approaches. Neither worked. I don't know how my poor mother goes on. She is 78 now and had a stroke in 2004, not related to their deaths. I used to think suicide was the coward's way out, but, some people feel pain and are feeling useless, none of us see. |

Re: *UPDATE* Philip Seymour Hoffman Found Dead in Manhattan Apartment
His roles in 'The Big Lebowski' and 'Patch Adams' weren't the biggest, but I can't imagine any other actor playing those parts. I am officially bummed by this news |

Re: *UPDATE* Philip Seymour Hoffman Found Dead in Manhattan Apartment
A lot of lives are destroyed in the drug trade so selfish pricks like this can get his high going, including the grieving children who no longer have a dad. Strung out junkie won his best award yet... The Darwin. His acceptance speech was "whoa man..." Only shame was, with Chris Farley dead, he was the next best actor for any future Rob Ford movie. |

Re: *UPDATE* Philip Seymour Hoffman Found Dead in Manhattan Apartment
The guy had money, fame, a family, but chose to shit it away for drugs like any average gutter dwelling junkie piece of shit. Fuck him, filthy junkie, good riddance.

Re: *UPDATE* Philip Seymour Hoffman Found Dead in Manhattan Apartment
That pretty much sums up how I feel. I don't agree that being an addict is a disease, it's a choice. It may progress to an addiction, but that first time, is a choice. I cannot imagine having all that man had and throwing it all away, most importantly, leaving those young children without their father. |

Re: *UPDATE* Philip Seymour Hoffman Found Dead in Manhattan Apartment
Being addicted to drugs doesn't make their life less valuable. He was known for being a good person but he just had a serious drug problem. With that attitude, you should just say the same negativity towards Layne Staley, Chris Farley, Jimi Hendrix, and so many more great people. |

Re: *UPDATE* Philip Seymour Hoffman Found Dead in Manhattan Apartment
I didn't believe the, "disease," brand either, until I saw it first hand with my family. As a person without an addictive personality, it's easy to say, "Stop! Think you what you're doing!" But, it doesn't work that way. Yes, no one forces you to experience your first drink or drug, but, we don't know how our bodies will react. Some people die their first time. Russian Roulette! |
