Action News PHILADELPHIA - March 28, 2014 (WPVI) -- A mother is facing charges after her three children were found alone after a small fire broke out inside their North Philadelphia home. It was 6:56 p.m. Thursday when emergency crews responded to the 1700 block of North Newkirk Street. Arriving officers observed smoke coming from the property and learned from neighbors that there were children inside the home. They tried to kick in the front door as a child called for help from the living room. The door was locked with a deadbolt that couldn't be opened without a key, so the children couldn't open the door. One neighbor got inside from the back and started passing the children out the window, first a 9 year old boy, followed by a 2 year old girl and then a 4 year old boy. Investigators determined that their mother, 31 year old, Lorraine Wilson, had left the residence at approximately 1:00 p.m., leaving the children home alone. Then, around 6:30 p.m., the oldest child noticed the 4 year old playing with a lighter in a second floor bedroom. The 9 year old took the lighter and placed it in the bathroom, away from the younger child. But, when the older child returned to the bedroom, the bed was on fire. The boy attempted to put the fire out with water, but, was unsuccessful. All three children were transported to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The 9 year old boy suffered smoke inhalation, as well as cuts to his hands and feet. The two younger kids suffered smoke inhalation. Police say it appears Lorraine Wilson frequently left her children home alone. They are now being cared for by their grandmother. A warrant has been issued for Wilson. She will face 6 child endangerment charges when she's either arrested or turns herself in. And some wonder why I refer to women who gave birth incubators instead of mothers. :facepalm :shrug **UPDATE** Action News PHILADELPHIA - March 28, 2014 (WPVI) -- A mother is facing charges after her three children were found alone after a small fire broke out inside their North Philadelphia home. 31 year old, Lorraine Wilson, turned herself into the Special Victims Unit Friday night.
