ALBERTVILLE, Alabama - A man accused of shooting his estranged pregnant wife multiple times before turning the gun on himself died this morning at Huntsville Hospital, according to Marshall County District Attorney Steve Marshall.

However, his wife, whose name has not been released, gave birth by Caesarean section. "As far as I know, mama and baby are doing OK," Marshall said late Saturday afternoon. He did not know the baby's gender.

Marshall said he received a call from police not long after lunch on Saturday notifying him the man had died and requesting an autopsy. Marshall said the autopsy has been ordered.

Police Sgt. Jamie Smith said Friday police expect to release the names of the couple Monday.

The shooting occurred on Thanksgiving Day when the man was invited to Thanksgiving dinner at the Lydia Street home of his wife, from whom he'd separated several months before, Smith said. The woman was eight months' pregnant.

Sometime after the meal, an argument began and the man shot the woman multiple times in the head at around 7 p.m. He then shot himself in the head, Smith said.

Both were taken by medical helicopters to Huntsville Hospital.

Man Dies After Thanksgiving Attempted Murder, Suicide

Police have identified the two people involved in a Thanksgiving attempted murder and suicide.

Albertville Police said 24-year-old Jacob Corona shot his estranged wife, 28-year-old Mayra Cordova Alvarado, Thursday night at a mobile home on Lydia Street.

Investigators said the couple was having Thanksgiving dinner when they got into an argument. That's when they said Corona shot his pregnant wife five times, and then turned the gun on himself.

Alvarado suffered a gunshot wound to the face and four to her arm. Corona was taken to Marshall Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the head. He later died Saturday afternoon.

Alvarado gave birth Thursday night by emergency C-section at the hospital. The baby and mother are reportedly doing well.
