Ukrainian skaters refused to congratulate the Russians on their victory At the Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating in Budapest, Anastasia Metelkina and Luka Berulava represented Georgia. Both athletes were born in Russia and continue to train here. During the award ceremony, they approached the Ukrainians to hug them, but they pulled away. |

That's not what sport is about. My grandfather (who was English) played football against the Germans on Christmas day in 1914. They climbed out of their trenches all up and down the front line, had a kick about, a drink and a smoke and even exchanged gifts and family photos and a few days later were back down to business trying to kill each other. That is what sport is about. If they felt so strongly, they should have refused to compete against the Russians. |

Citizens of a country at war have no obligation to hug their literally mortal enemy. Part of winning a war is winning at psyops, including the battle of public opinion on both sides of the front. The Ukranians did well projecting a media image of a proud, unshakeable opponent. A "friendly" greeting would be viewed and rebroadcast as kowtowing by the two Ukrainians toward the Russian victors.

As soon as out politicians finish pushing us into total economic ruin and we can no longer send "aid" in the form of all of the weapons and vehicles, yeah. I'm not ecstatic about another war that's not really our problem.
