it's fucking ridiculous....

the eu is trying to make people feel better by telling turkey that if they house more refugees they will give them eu status......which then means that annyone in turkey can travel anywhere in the eu....

so it's this tiny little circle of deceit....

and people accept it..... unfortunately i can't vote as i'm living on jersey and not on the UK electoral roll....otherwise i'd be voting 'leave' too....as most of my friends are

There's just no way not to assume the worst. I try to separate the average Turk with their leadership, but this isn't about Turkish citizens... this is about Erdogan and his regime.

Imagine this-
Turkey gets EU status and visa-free travel. Turkey issues Turkish passports to refugees and then sends them to Europe.
I don't think it's impossible.

They need a biometric passport and can stay for 90 days max.
Buying such a passport there is pretty expensive ( 300 euro). Only 7 out of 80 million Turks owns a passport so EU doesn't expect an invasion. They can make those new passports in a rate of 10,000 a day so when 7 million passport holders need a new one it takes 700 days before all are replaced (if they wanna spend 300 euro for it)

The European Commission has given conditional backing for Turkish people to get visa-free travel inside Europe's passport-free Schengen area.

It says Turkey has made good progress on key conditions, but work remains to be done "as a matter of urgency".

The change could take effect from July, but first it requires approval by the European Parliament and member states.

Five benchmarks still to be met by Turkey:
Corruption: Turkey must pass measures to prevent corruption, in line with EU recommendations

Data protection: It must align national legislation on personal data protection with EU standards

Europol: An agreement is to be concluded with the continent's law enforcement agency

Judicial cooperation: It must work with all EU members on criminal matters

Legislation on terrorism: Turkey is also required to bring its terror laws in line with European standards.


The commission is also giving Turkey until the end of the year to upgrade its passports, so that they meet the latest biometric standards.

Mr Timmermans stressed that no Turkish citizen would enter the EU without a visa if they do not have a biometric passport with a facial image and fingerprint data.

Visa-free travel will apply to all EU Member States except for Ireland and the UK, and to the four Schengen associated countries - Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

But it will not grant Turks the right to get a job in Europe.
Separate to the deal with Turkey, the Commission also proposed granting visa-free travel to citizens of Kosovo.
The tiny Balkan state declared independence from Serbia in 2008 and is still not recognised by Belgrade and five EU states.

Under the plan, Kosovans with biometric passports would be able to enter the Schengen zone without a visa and stay for up to 90 days.

Why doesn't the EU governing body itself issue passports? I know it would be tremendously labor intensive, but it would have to be advantageous in regards to control and security.

because that would be work for them/....governments these days charge more and more tax but farm out more and more work to private enterprise or 'departments' which run themselves

Sounds familiar.
But even with contracting, corrupt as it may be, they could at least centralize the processing of passports in a singular entity, right?
Just thinking that it sounds better than letting Turkey print off their own EU passports. Make it part of being in the EU... the EU governing body itself will be the issuing authority. Expensive and frustrating, no doubt, but I would think a worthy cost.

Hope this free visa idea won't branch out to other poorer continents.

May not permit them work but certainly tempt immigration. Once set up, guaranteed they'll be allowed work. Especially here in spineless UK
