Re: Turkish Army Taken Control of the Country

The conscripts were told it was a major military exercise
How do you mean "fake coup"..
It was organized just to consolidate Erdogans power..

Re: Turkish Army Taken Control of the Country

The government will introduce a bill calling for the execution of rebel soldiers, according to deputy prime minister Mehmet Müezzinoğlu.
In that case
Reinstating the death penalty in Turkey would end EU accession talks, a German government spokesman has stated.

Meanwhile, EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini also warned that no country can become an EU member that has capital punishment.

“Introduction of death penalty would mean immediate suspension of accession talks,” German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said on Monday.

Turkey is part of the Council of Europe and is bound by the European Convention on Human Rights, the EU Foreign Policy Chief noted.

“No country can become an EU member state if it introduces the death penalty,” she said. “Turkey is an important part of the Council of Europe and is bound by the European Convention on Human Rights, which is very clear on the death penalty.”

That's also what i thought along with many others. Absurd so many got arrested and many cops got fired right after the failed coup. They already had a list of possible people they wanted to get rid off.

Meantime the prisoners get held in inhumane conditions. Like pigs in a stable.

Re: Turkish Army Taken Control of the Country

As explained in another thread some time ago, in 2011, about the 70% of Europeans were opposed to Turkey's membership in the European Union: go figure now that it's a well-known fact that Turkey is the favourite backdoor to Europe for terrorists and benefit seekers, as they are doin' NOTHING to stop them. They are way more focused on fighting PKK, and since Kurds are their sworn enemy AND Kurds are fighting ISIS in Syria, it's OBVIOUS that they side with ISIS.
France, Germany and Austria will always oppose full membership of Turkey to the EU; besides, upon joining the EU, Turkey would have the 2nd largest number of members of the European Parliament, the first in 2020 (according to demographic projections).
LOL

Ehhh, they have a looooong way to go:
take a quick look @ the negotiation process, and you'll see that if they proceed at this speed, maybe they'll be able to join EU in year 2300 (more or less, with MUCH luck): other issues are failing to recognize the armenian genocide, failing to modify Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code
No, Turkey will never join EU, in my opinion: the only cards in their hand are the NATO membership (now reeeeeally at risk) and the fact that they have the 3% of their territory in Europe. Morocco has way more chances to join EU if you ask me (and Morocco is in Africa, eh...).

Re: Turkish Army Taken Control of the Country

Is it still safe to travel to Turkey?

The US advises its citizens to reconsider travelling at this time, while the UK Foreign Office warns of a "potentially volatile" security situation.

After heavy disruption, flights are returning to normal. If you have travel plans involving Turkey, check with your airline or tour operator.
One of our favourite destinations, Olu Deniz with the Blue Lagoon in Antalya.

Would hate it to end up a complete no-go area and I'm sure it will
